Understanding the major parts of the horizontal boring mill

Following are the major parts of the horizontal boring mill are as follows:
• Headstock: It is the unit that supports the drives and also feeds the tool. It may comprise one or two spindles - one fast-moving for lighter operations like drilling and tapping and one slow-moving for heavier operations of boring.
• Column base: It supports the column and also houses the driving mechanisms and gears.
• Column: It gives support for headstock even while accurately guiding it up / down on ways. It balances the headstock since it is constructed hollow so that to could house counterweights, thus making it easier to move.
• End support column: It supports the end of the bar whenever a line bar is employed.
• Runways: They are employed for holding the end-support column, main column and a rotary table (if required).
• Table: It provides for the locking / clamping of the work, a support for holding the job. It generally moves at right angles to the spindle axis unless equipped with a saddle.
• Saddle: It lets the table move transversely and axially to the spindle.
• Bed: All planer and table type machines carry beds. They store the coolant tank and support the column, end supports, headstock and table.
• Floor plate: Made from several pieces, it is mounted and then leveled into position.
