In Precision and Vibration Dampening

 

In today's fast changing world, requirements for more specific mechanisms are the key to improved efficiency. More precision is needed for faster speeds, improved energy conservation and better reliability and performance. One of the world's leading bearing manufacturers came to Engineering Technologies needing a solution to make high precision, large diameter bearings used in aircraft engines, power generation equipment, MRI's and other applications.

To meet this requirement, Engineering Technologies designed and produced a Super Precision Grinder that could Grind Parts 1500mm in Diameter to an Accuracy of +/- .001mm. To meet this challenge, Engineering Technologies engineers employed the latest in manufacturing technologies. A polymer base and column were used to provide the Ultimate in Vibration Dampening that is critical to grinding accuracy and surface finish. Also, a rotary table was used that had hydrostatic bearings and a direct torque motor was installed to further improve vibration dampening.

Roller linear guide ways were used to accurately position high precision, high speed Pope Grinding Spindles and a variety of wheel dressers were incorporated along with a tool changer for handling various grinding wheels. To further enhance cutting conditions, a temperature controlled, fine filtered coolant system was used.

To control the Super Precision Grinder, a high speed Siemans 840 D CNC control was installed with menu programming for ease of operation. Engineering Technologies created custom macro programs for wheel dressing and grinding cycles to insure ease of set up and repetitive performance.

This grinder, with its capacity of 1500mm in diameter, is reported to be the customer's most accurate grinder with tolerances better than +/- .001mm. Combined with a Engineering Technologies V40L Vertical Turning Center with live spindle, this Super Precision Grinder forms a cell that is producing ultra precision parts for one of the world leaders in bearing production.
